The British Medical Association is currently enjoying the highest profile it ever had since the health service was set up in 1948. At that time, the Association was opposed to some of the proposals for a new service. Now they are defending the status quo to the hilt, with ads, leaflets and videos which amount to a health warning against the government's plan for the NHS as laid out in the White Paper.
